Thyme for Kids - a family, food, and franchising blog
Into food, family, or franchising? You're in the right place. The recipe for blogging here at YCA is to keep it simple, entertaining, educational, and to the point. We take one simple concept and give you our unique perspective.
From our franchisees, our students, or our corporate staff - if you hear it here, you know it's all us, all original and all fresh. We might tell you the story of a bright young chef who taught his instructor a few things, then next maybe the latest culinary trend (beef tongue sliders?). There is nothing ordinary about any of our franchises, and we delight in sharing the extraordinary "scoop"! Enjoy, comment, and please share.

Young Chefs Academy Makes Headlines in Local Markets

Young Chefs Academy’s fun, unique concept and irresistible franchise opportunity continue to make headlines across the country as increasing numbers of Young Chefs learn just how rewarding it is to be creatively fulfilled.

June

Recently, Young Chefs Academy Founder Julie Burleson was interviewed in the Orange Observer where she discussed her background, her passion for education and cooking and the many ways that Young Chefs Academy contributes to the small business and academic climate of the communities it serves. She uses the local media as a platform to talk more about how Young Chefs Academy allows her to discover the joys of small business ownership and direct interaction with creative-minded children.

“We’re a real cooking school,” Burleson said in the article, “so we focus on true culinary skills, but that’s just one part of it. They learn invaluable life lessons in addition to culinary skills — from team building, to history, culture, geography. There’s a sprinkling of those lessons throughout every classroom experience.”

Celebrate Father’s Day with Young Chefs Academy

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and there’s no better way to thank Dad for everything he’s done for you than with a thoughtfully prepared meal! Grab your young chef, don an apron and let’s get cooking some dishes Dad is sure to love!

Father's Day

It’s summer, so why not spend some time outdoors with Dad grilling? Try easy-to-prepare chicken sandwiches for dinner – marinate split chicken breasts in equal parts soy sauce, water, olive oil and brown sugar, plus the juice of one orange and a minced garlic clove. With an adult’s supervision, grill the chicken until the interior reaches 165 degrees F. As the chicken rests, brush pineapple rings with a little brown sugar and oil and char them lightly. Butter your rolls and grill them until the bottoms are crispy, then assemble the sandwiches – toasted bun, chicken breast, pineapple ring, vegetable fixings of choice and the top bun. Dad will love the effort you put into creating such a thoughtful (and delicious!) meal!
