Thyme for Kids - a family, food, and franchising blog
Into food, family, or franchising? You're in the right place. The recipe for blogging here at YCA is to keep it simple, entertaining, educational, and to the point. We take one simple concept and give you our unique perspective.
From our franchisees, our students, or our corporate staff - if you hear it here, you know it's all us, all original and all fresh. We might tell you the story of a bright young chef who taught his instructor a few things, then next maybe the latest culinary trend (beef tongue sliders?). There is nothing ordinary about any of our franchises, and we delight in sharing the extraordinary "scoop"! Enjoy, comment, and please share.

Always a trendsetter in the culinary and franchising world, Young Chefs Academy partnered with Food Network Magazine this August and September to bring “Back to School” open house events to Young Chefs Academy kitchens across the country.

Afternoon, evening and weekend events included fun and healthy back-to-school snacks, interactive cooking activities, chef demonstrations and sponsor samples by and for kids of all ages. Sponsors included reputable names such as Horizon Organic Milk, Sara Lee and the California Grape Board.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Young Chefs Academy and Food Network Magazine have partnered for this exciting series of events. Young Chefs Academy locations nationwide received substantial media attention for the events, helping to promote them to a broad audience. Check out some of the coverage here.

“This year’s ‘Back to School’ open house events with Food Network Magazine were our largest to date,” said Julie Burleson, the founder and CEO of Young Chefs Academy. “We had more demonstrations, games and giveaways than ever before. We enjoyed visiting several of our locations around the country and seeing the smiles on the faces of the parents and children having fun. Hearing the stories from our franchisees was the highlight of the entire season for me. We just love welcoming kids into our creative and delicious environment.”

Young Chefs Academy Celebrates “Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day”

Here at Young Chefs Academy, we recently celebrated “Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day” on September 13. In fact, we’re always celebrating kids in the kitchen! As the flavors of fall start to work their way into our kitchens, we wanted to share a few fun fall recipe ideas that the whole family can enjoy making – and eating!

Lunch improvement
Dress up your lunch for autumn! Get your favorite fall-themed cookie cutters and try them out on sandwiches, cheese slices, lunch meat or fruit sliced thin.

Pumpkin butter
Fall’s most prevalent flavor – pumpkin – is easy to apply to both sweet and savory foods. We love to make pumpkin butter to spread on toast, muffins or cornbread! Just mix a softened stick of unsalted butter with one tablespoon of pumpkin puree, a pinch of kosher salt and a dash of pumpkin pie spice. Store it in the fridge and enjoy it on your favorite fall treats!
