Thyme for Cooking: Our Favorite Holiday Cookbooks of 2014
There has never been a better year to be a cooking enthusiast! There are cooking shows, cooking movies, cooking magazines, blogs, and books. 2014 has, in particular, been a year of the Chef. We've seen more and more cooking-centric focus on the Chef, his personality, style, and views… and for obvious reasons, we love that!

Most of these chefs are becoming publishers by putting out amazing cookbooks telling the most beautiful, creative, innovative cooking stories…. and there are so many to choose from! To celebrate the best month of the year to be into cooking, we give you a few of our favorites. Must-haves for you, your young chef, or the chef in your life… happy holidays from all of us here at Young Chefs Academy!

For the Entertainer:
Make It Ahead: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook by Ina Garten

Holiday entertaining? Relax. Ina to the rescue with recipes, each including clear instructions, for what you can do ahead of time. Can I make it ahead? How far in advance? Thanks to twenty years of running a specialty food store and fifteen years writing cookbooks, Ina has learned exactly which dishes you can prep, assemble, or cook ahead of time. Whether you’re hosting a Christmas party or simply making dinner on a hectic weeknight, Ina gives you many amazing recipes that taste just even better—when they’re made in advance.

For the History-Loving Cookie Lover:
The Gourmet Cookie Book: The Single Best Recipe from Each Year 1941-2009 by Gourmet Magazine

We love this as a coffee table book - seriously! You might pick this up for Mom for Christmas (Barnes and Noble keeps late hours, right?). A historical snapshot of each year in food… also a great conversation piece. Published by America's first epicurean magazine for anyone who likes cooking, history, cookies…. this timeless resource with beautiful photos would make a gorgeous gift!

For the Serious Cook:
The Cook's Illustrated Cookbook: 2,000 Recipes from 20 Years of America's Most Trusted Cooking Magazine

Cook's Illustrated Magazine is another classic that has stood the test of time.  A must-have for fans of Cook's Illustrated (and any cook), The Cook's Illustrated Cookbook will keep you cooking for a lifetime--and guarantees recipes that work every single time. For the first time since the magazine's inception, more than 2,000 of Cook's Illustrated's recipes have been curated into a wide-ranging compendium that shows you how to make your favorite dishes better.

For the Pastry Chef:
The Baking Bible Hardcover by Rose Levy Beranbaum

Whoever developed the lay-flat bindings… genius! We all know baker Rose Levy Beranbaum - she's back with her most extensive “bible” yet. "With all-new recipes for the best cakes, pies, tarts, cookies, candies, pastries, breads, and more, this magnum opus draws from Rose’s passion and expertise in every category of baking."

P.S. One of our PR gals, Cindy had a great idea. We get our Julie (our CEO) to review one cookbook a month, and at the end of the year we recap all 12!
